Meet our Volunteer
Force
Every
Day Right Here in Florida and throughout the United States hundreds of
elderly and disabled people go hungry. Good, tasty food is available to feed
them. But we don't have enough volunteers to deliver the meals.
With just a
small effort, hundreds of additional home-bound people can receive hot,
nutritious meals. Would you spend one lunch hour a month to help? If
you do, you'll make a difference in a direct meaningful way.
Southcare
needs volunteers to deliver 10-12 meals one lunch hour a month. And more
than just delivering life-giving food, volunteers provide a vital link to
those they serve. For many clients, the few minutes they have with a
volunteer is their only face-to-face contact with someone all day. By
participating you can
Southcare builds partnerships by connecting those unable to cook for
themselves with those who are willing to help.
Most
volunteers drive once a week, Monday-Friday at noon. Volunteers pick up their
meals at a location near their home or office and deliver about 15 meals in
the area. Delivery takes about an hour. Group volunteer opportunities are
also available, please call our office for details at: (386) 418-8000
- Meals On Wheels
provides you training, an established route to drive and, of course, the
food to deliver.
-
You volunteer your time and the use of your car so the maximum number of
people can be served.
-
One lunch hour a month, you pick up a container packed with 10 to 12 meals
from a Meals On Wheels distribution center near your office and make
deliveries along a route that typically covers 2-4 miles
-
Sixty minutes later, you're back at work feeling great about making sure
that several neighbors received a hot meal . . . almost certainly the only
one they'll have that day.
